In brief, the story deals with the experiences of a small town boy, who returns home after having "made good" in New York. At least the townspeople take it for granted that he has been successful inasmuch as his business cards read "President of the Amalgamated Oil Co." The citizens hail his arrival with the keenest delight because the town is at that very moment in the midst of an oil boom.

"The Shadow on the Wall" deals with a young man who is forced into being a crook, although his natural tendencies are honest. It is this strange twist of Fate, however, that makes him the central figure in a fight for a fortune. Throughout the entire plot there is present the ever-mysterious "shadow." Strangely enough, it is by a shadow that the hero wins a fortune and a wife.

The story deals with a young fellow who inherits a million dollars from his uncle but has to marry a certain girl to collect. He has just gone through the unpleasant experience of having "The only girl in the world" walk out of the church on him for another fellow, and his feelings toward women in general are not what they might be, so he passes up the legacy, but when he sees the girl in the case, it's a different story entirely.

A tense, swift-moving drama of wartime in which the girl, a celebrated Parisian dancer, is caught in the meshes of the French secret service and forced to sacrifice everything -- apparently ever her great love for an American army captain -- for her country.
It is a succession of thrills, linked together into one of the most remarkable plays of recent years.

Based on Selma Lagerlof's Novel

Two men -- one loved her, one looked on her with the eyes of desire. Ignorant of the world, she listened to the call of wealth, pleasure, gayety.
While at home waited a father who lived in a tower of gorgeous lies, and the boy who could offer her only love and peace.
