in the mountains she met an unknown Sir Galahad, garbed in the shining armour of Romance. Robert Addis, to come down to realities, was a practical young fellow, well endowed with this world's good, and keenly on the lookout for adventure. He certainly found it in Julia, and the acquaintance ripened into love. Both returned to the city by the same train, and both were in the crash of the accident when thelimited Northbound collided with the twenty-nine Southbound. Julia escaped unhurt, but the shock left Robert blind. And so for the present the Romance was at an end.

Julia resumed her duties at the agency, and confided her secret to her friend and staff companion, Virginia Howard. Julia's life had been drab in many respects. Attracted by the suave and genteel Dr. Usher, she had, some three years prior to the opening of the story, con-

sented to be his wife, but alas! the wedding has hardly consummated when she was sadly disillusioned in the discovery that her husband was worthless, and had married her for the money left her by her folks. Having secured this, the doctor deserted her, and Julia returned to the treadmill of the cashier's office.

Shortly after the railway accident, Virginia confessed to Julia that she had taken the funds of the company to help her lover, and that the theft had been discovered. Julia resolved to help her

friend and to make a get-a-way, mainly because her husband had been pestering her again. And so she becomes Miss Sharon, maid and nurse to Mrs. Cameron, a wealthy invalid living with her neice in the country.

Almost as soon as she was installed, Julia found that she was in deep waters. The invalid was making no progress, and Julia as not long in discovering a conspiracy against the sick woman.

In this conspiracy, her husband, as the doctor in attendance, and the head nurse played leading parts, and it was evident that the motive of the doctor was to marry the neice Felicia, and secure her money. Here, also, Julia found her mountain lover, blind and helpless, and her heart went out to him in his great affliction. A house guest, the count Sansome, in love with Felicia, was also interested in the conspiracy, and all unknown to Julia, was protecting the invalid as far as possible by changing the medicines. When the doctor discovered Julia as the attendant, he procedded to Violent measures, and after locking her up securely, the conspirators decided to bring matters to a quick conclusion.

However, the best laid scheme ofter go astray, and Dr. Usher had reckoned without the Count. The night was well advanced when the final scene occurred. Julia made a great attempt to save the invalid, and just succeeded, when the

Count, accompanied by the police, arrived and arrested the doctor and his accomplice. The doctor, in attempting to elude the detectives, jumped from the balcony to the hall, and was instantly killed. His death freed Julia, and the ending was a happy one for all.
