"DESIRE" STARS MARLENE DIETRICH, GARY COOPER IN LAUGH- AND THRILL-FILLED LUBITSCH ROMANCE
"Big Brown Eyes" Other Hit

Next week-end's Spring Festival program brings Marlene Dietrich and Gary Cooper in "Desire," and Joan Bennett and Cary Grant in "Big Brown Eyes."

"Desire" tells of a sensational jewel robbery executed by a breath-taking Continental beauty. She makes a jeweler think that a famous pathologist is her husband, and the doctor that the jeweler is her spouse. While they are busy misunderstanding one another, she skips off with the precious string of pearls, and meets an American engineer out for a glorious vacation. Out of a hilarious series of misunderstandings, an ardent romance emerges.

The comedy and romance are skillfully blended in this picture which brings Miss Dietrich and Gary Cooper together for the first time since "Morocco." In the supporting cast are such popular players as John Halliday, William Frawley, Ernest Cossart, Aki Tamiroff and Alan Mowbray. Frank Borzage directed.

"Desire" is perfect entertainment -- the happy combination of the romantic appeal of Gary Cooper and the allure of Marlene Dietrich, in a story peppered with the mischievous touch of Ernst Lubitsch.

"SPEED" AND "BRIDGE OF SIGHS" DUE ON BIG MIDWEEK PROGRAM
Mon. and Tues. Bring Fine Festival Treats

"Speed," M-G-M's romantic action-filled comedy drama with an outstanding cast of favorites, and "Bridge of Sighs," thrilling and dramatic romance featuring Onslow Stevens, Dorothy Tree, Jack La rue and Mary Doran, are the two Spring Festival treats due on the same midweek program next Monday and Tuesday, June 15 and 16.

"Speed," the new M-G-M hit due next week, is happily titled. It reflects the pace of the mechanical age and at the same time humanizes the scene in any typical American industrial plant. It is a story of automobile mnaufacturing (sic) and of dare-devil tests on dangerous curves, with a colorful love affair in progress.

The cast consists of James Stewart, Wendy Barrie, Una Merkel, Weldon Heyburn, Ted Healy, Ralph Morgan and Patricia Wilder.

Stewart portrays a daring young man at the wheel, who is vitally concerned with his invention of a new carburetor.

Miss Barris is charming in the role of a factory executive's daughter who goes to work in the plant and promptly wins the heart of the world's most reckless test driver.
