MARY PICKFORD

JOHANNA ENLISTS

Mary Pickford has a regiment all her own and she usess it in some of the military scenes in this picture, which is an adaptation of Rupert Hughes' novel, "The Mobilization of Johanna." It is the 143 Regiment of Field Artillery from Camp Kearney, and, believe us, Mary is sure proud of "her boys," as she calls them. Mary has a delightful role in which she makes a decided transformation — from a gawkey, freckle-faced awkward country girl to a dainty young persion, sans freckles, awkwardness and all the other marks of her uncouth "bringin' up." It all comes about because Johanna wants to be loved, and she is -- by a whole regiment in general, and three in particular.

THE MARRIAGE RING
Does a marriage ring really mean anything?

It counts for you and me and other "regular folks," but how about the man and woman who are as far apart as the poles in temperament? One of them, say, is almost a Puritan, the other a denizen on the fringe of the underworld -- how about them? Does the ring bind in their case?

A thrilling story laid 'mod shot and shell, of a Red Cross nurse and her lover, who paid the price that the tracherous (sic) Huns asked.

Certainly a thrilling picture. The best Miss Dalton has ever done.

The fireworks end when she marries a good old-fashioned citizen of these United States -- the kind of a fellow you'd want her to marry.

By the way, she gets introduced to him by a bolt of lightning.
